The emo. (pron: eei-mo)

The emo is a curious creature. They wear skinny-leg black jeans (that may or may not prevent blood pumping around their bodies, thus why they are so white,) dye their hair black, grease it up and grow it so it’s covering at least a third of their face. They also wear winter clothing in summer and complain about the heat. The emo has ruined many a good thing in the past few years: punk music for example, used to be a respected music genre, now, it seems punk music has got its rags and now only bitches about how unfair life is. Clothing, obviously, as I have stated above, and (this is the one that really pisses me off)… poetry. A large quantity of poetry at the moment has succumb to the emo generations trend of “this life sucks, I’m going to commit suicide, oh I’m so dramatic that nobody understands me [bitch, bitch, whine].” In Bendigo, where I used to live, a popular come-back has now emerged when anyone is being over emotional (emo = emotional, where the term comes from) to say “oh go write a poem about it”. Fuck off. Poetry is better than this, or at least it should be. Emotional poetry has always existed, however it had a sense of decorum within it’s words. (See Poe, Blake, Dryden, Shelley, Byron, Thomas, Plath, etc) Now however poetry such as this seems abundant in the world:

My heart bleeds crimson pain,
The darkness continues to expand,
I feel I’m being swallowed whole,
Only this knife can understand.

Oh spew. I almost threw up writing that. (Apologies to all the non emo people out there who are shuddering at the moment.) There are now plenty of jokes about people cutting themselves associated with the emo gen. (Another thing which I think is ridiculous and stupid, but I guess, If you can’t beat em’ (with a heavy object), join the( people who laugh at them)…right?
Any group of the following words seems to be associated with emo poetry:

‘shadows’, ‘black’, ‘whole’, ‘darkness’, ‘emotion’, ‘pain’ (or any associated pain terminology, such as ‘scars, ‘wounds’, ‘stabbing’, etc), bleeding, etc. Perfectly good words, ruined by the emo gen. Grr. I’ll stop writing before I get like one of them.

Comments:
The list of words at the end of your post either makes me want to never use them again, or use all of them in one poem.

I haven't decided which just yet. ;)
